The Stars Have Aligned: Introducing CIMS Advanced by GBAC

Please note: GBAC is no longer accepting new applications for the GBAC STAR Service Program.

To meet industry demand and strengthen ISSA’s company-based certification offering, ISSA has merged elements of the GBAC STAR Service accreditation criteria into the ISSA Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS). The result:  CIMS Advanced by GBAC, one comprehensive certification for quality-driven building service contractors and in-house cleaning organizations that strive to maintain hygienic environments for the benefit of building occupants.

The new program is based on the successful CIMS criteria, which outlines the primary characteristics of a successful, quality cleaning organization, plus  a renewed emphasis on maintaining hygienic environments through GBAC’s industry-leading cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention protocols.

What does this mean for the industry?

  • Enhanced standard criteria. The CIMS standard has been bolstered by critical elements from the GBAC STAR accreditation program.
  • Evolved certification. This represents the first major update of components for the CIMS standard since its inclusion of the Green Building (GB) elements to align with LEED building certification requirements.
  • Empowered organizations. GBAC’s expertise in infection prevention best practices will help cleaning service providers support their customers and help internal stakeholders create more hygienic environments for building occupants.

What’s next for you?
Existing GBAC STAR Service-accredited organizations will be eligible to certify under the new program upon their upcoming renewal date. Existing CIMS-certified organizations will maintain certification under the new program.
