Detroit Metropolitan Airport Prioritizes Traveler Safety with GBAC STAR Accreditation

ROSEMONT, Ill.November 3, 2022—The Global Biorisk Advisory Council™ (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, today announced that the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), operated by the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA), has completed the GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation process. The accreditation demonstrates the airport’s continued commitment to health and safety.

DTW is one of the world’s leading air transportation hubs. With more than 800 flights per day to and from three continents that serve more than 36 million passengers annually, GBAC STAR Facility Accreditation helped DTW to improve its cleaning and disinfecting processes while empowering staff to work more efficiently. DTW teams implemented plans to ensure high touchpoint cleaning aligned with the heavy traffic during peak departure and arrival times.

“Our top priority has always been health and safety,” said WCAA Process and Compliance Coordinator of Terminal Operations Angela Dominczyk. “With GBAC STAR Accreditation, we are able to reassure employees and passengers that DTW is doing everything possible to protect their health and well-being.”

“Investing in the health and safety of passengers and employees is a top priority for DTW,” said GBAC Executive Director Patricia Olinger. “To clean and maintain a busy airport is challenging, but with their commitment to GBAC STAR, noticeable changes resulted through updated and improved cleaning plans.”
